On the 21st of July the design team got into the spirit of things and attended Andover Carnival. We spent the day at Vigo Park alongside the Andover Vision Team talking with local residents and learning more about Andover. We asked people to tell us what they loved about Andover and what they thought could be improved. Below are some of the great suggestions you gave us. Thanks for your feedback.
Here’s some of the great things people said they loved about Andover:
- Free family events, green spaces
- Easy to walk into town (through parks)
- Nice community
- Lots of family events
- New leisure centre
- Free parking after 4pm and on Sunday, Library good for kids, Lights is a great venue.
- Diversity, range of shops, independents are good (visitor from Basingstoke)
Here are a few of the suggestions people said would make Andover better:
- Needs lots of ladies shops, improve town centre plus seating areas.
- Underpass issues alternative, antisocial behaviour issues but really like living in town
- More events, more live, music events to get people together
- Family friendly toilets
- Smaller park areas for teenagers
- More live music venues
- Lower rent for local shops, better shops, British restaurant, outdoor seated pubs
- Don’t use Basingstoke as an example – wrong way to grow.
- Andover’s missing more markets, festivals, and children’s entertaining younger under 8, clothes stores, beer gardens with play areas.
- Involving local artists with schools to create pop up shops
